Provides structural engineering support to the Structures and Materials Division of the Aviation Engineering Directorate.
Application of standard practice hand calculations of aircraft and component static stress analysis for validation/verification of structural integrity
Application of Finite Element Analysis Techniques to determine load distributions in aircraft structure. Strong Modeling skills desired using NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, and SOLIDWORKS.
Development of airworthiness structural criteria, structural testing requirements, test witnessing, test plans, determination of flight envelope restrictions, and analysis of flight strain/loads data.
Review of flight test and specimen laboratory testing data to establish S-N curves and prediction of component lives.
Review of Airworthiness releases, safety of flight messages, and airworthiness evaluations and reports.
Strong statistical analysis capability desired.
Requires 10 to 12 years with BS/BA or 8 to 10 years with MS/MA or 5 to 7 years with PhD.
BS degree in Civil, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering curriculum. Master's degree desired.
Minimum 10 years' experience in static stress and/or fatigue analysis of aircraft; experience with rotary wing aircraft dynamic components is a plus.
Experience at an aircraft OEM is highly desirable.
Production line support, MRB evaluation, and field repair experience a plus.
Experience with analysis of composite aircraft structures is a plus.
Experience in aircraft/helicopter flight test planning, flight data processing and analysis.
Experience in application of rotary wing component life methodology is a desirable.
