Special Education Aide - Auburn City Schools
Location: Auburn, AL
Please note that, due to state regulations, every school-based employee must obtain a Background Search through Cogent ID, which requires a nonrefundable fee of $46.90 payable to 3M CogentID. Position schedule will be based on the school's standard schedule. While some districts may offer opportunities outside of the regular school schedule, these are not guaranteed and opportunities will be limited. Special Education Aide As schools must often be able to place a qualified employee quickly in order to meet their students' needs in a timely manner, candidates may be hired as a Special Education Aide prior to a staffed position being available. If you apply for and are hired for this position, please be prepared to serve in a substitute capacity or on an on-call basis until a proper assignment can be identified for you. Instructional Aides, such as Special Education Aides, are responsible for assisting with the educational success of students and therefore need to be able to meet the educational requirements as laid out by the ALSDE for Highly Qualified status.
If selected for this position, you will be required to provide documentation that you meet one of the two options for Highly Qualified status: Provide proof of a minimum of 48 completed college credits, OR Provide proof of a passing score of 3 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment in all 3 of the below areas:Applied Math Workplace Documents Business Writing Scope of Responsibility Carrying out teacher-prepared lesson plans Supervising teacher-planned activities Assisting in the preparation of instructional materials Recording the individual progress of Special Education students Exhibiting a cooperative working relationship with teachers May be responsible for toileting assistance, personal grooming assistance, and/or heavy lifting .
Job Goals Assist in modifying instructional materials Assist special education students with technology, tests, and assessments Assist supervising teacher with activities, instruction and progress monitoring Provide personal care/hygiene (i.e. feeding, lifting and toileting)Correct minor behavioral problems Escort special education students to other classes as required Maintain strict confidentiality concerning student records
Requirements and Qualifications High School diploma Ability to meet Highly Qualified Status as listed in above job description Employment contingent upon completion of Appleton U module Ability to verify employment eligibility through completion of Federal I9 Form Friendly and approachable attitude Ability to work on an on-call basis until a staffed position can be identified and assigned Prior education-related classroom experience Prior experience working with individuals with special needs preferred Punctual and Professional (Consistent Attendance is a MUST!)Able to lift heavy objects 65-85 pounds Able to run after a student who may try to flee the classroom Managing Crisis Safely Training Certified.
