Akerman LLP, a leading U.S. law firm, is seeking an exceptional Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the firm's Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources is responsible for developing and executing the Human Resources strategy and operations in support of the firm's strategic direction.  The Director of HR will be based in the Maitland/Orlando area and lead a department that is responsible for HR policy development and implementation, employee relations, staff leadership and professional development programs, staff performance management and compensation, benefit design and administration, onboarding and orientation programs, staff recruitment, and retention strategies.  Recommends policies and monitors human resources activities affecting all operations of the firm.



This position is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies designed to attract, develop and retain highly qualified employees to the firm; serving as a business partner to firm management to support and advance the firm's strategic direction; managing, developing and coaching HR team members to ensure the effectiveness and credibility of the HR function; coaching and advising Office Administrators, Office Managing Partners and Practice Group Chairs to assist them in achieving their human resource strategies and successfully navigating sensitive employee relations issues; managing the annual performance evaluation and compensation processes for all administrative staff; directing staff recruitment strategies, placement and training programs, and ensuring compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations; making recommendations, ensuring implementation, and supervising the administration of all firm benefit programs and services, including medical, dental, disability and  life insurance plans, 401(k) Plan administration, flexible spending accounts, workers compensation, safety programs, unemployment compensation, salary continuation, paid time off, and leaves of absence; researching, designing, creating and implementing new human resources programs and overseeing the administration of these activities; monitoring salary budget for staff employees for bottom line compliance to total budgeted amount; overseeing the design and implementation of various training programs for managerial staff; maintaining awareness of employee morale and concerns and ensuring management/employee communication through exit interview program, group and department employee meetings, and various other activities; maintaining awareness and expertise regarding innovative HR policy, benefits, government regulations, and similar changes by attendance at seminars, webinars, communication with peers in other organizations, and review of various publications.



Position requirements include:

•8-10 years of progressive Human Resources management experience in a fast-paced, challenging professional services environment; prior law firm experience is highly desired

•Bachelors' degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required.  MBA or similar advanced degree highly desirable

•strong working knowledge of federal and applicable state employment laws

•demonstrated track record of successfully managing and leading HR teams

•Strong client service focus with the ability to navigate complex, highly-matrixed organizations, establish credibility, and build strong working relationships at all levels

•exceptional communication skills, including the ability to influence others

•highly detail-oriented with strong project management skills

•demonstrates a high level of confidentiality, diplomacy and excellent judgment in successfully navigating sensitive issues
