Job Description

The Staff Accountant should support the VP Accounting and Corporate Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department. The Staff Accountant should also relieve the VP Accounting and Corporate Controller of certain responsibilities that will allow them to spend a greater portion of their time on Financial Statement preparation and analysis, Budget and Variance issues, and Forecasting.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Administer corporate purchase card program and travel/employee expense software

• Responsible for several month-end close processes including revenue cycle, bank reconciliation, and fixed asset depreciation schedule

• Review general ledger and prepare adjustments for the various companies

• Monthly review of subsidiary profit and loss statements

• Maintain all prepaid and accrual schedules along with balance sheet reconciliation

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual GRT/HST, VAT, and personal property tax returns

• Assist VP, Accounting and Corporate Controller with various financial analysis and ad hoc reporting

• Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time – quite often on short notice - by the VP, Accounting or Corporate Controller 

Job Requirements

Required Skills: 

• Three to five years demonstrated experience working in an accounting department

• Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial and numerical data.

• Excel and Word skills a must

• Excellent attendance record

• Must be highly motivated and have excellent work habits; including a willingness to work the hours necessary to complete the job, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.

• Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate to others at both lateral and vertical levels. 

Required Education: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a Bachelor’s degree in Business with emphasis in Accounting is required.

Required Experience:

• Three to five years demonstrated experience working in an accounting department
