Summary Statement: 

Following established meal service standards, creates an enjoyable dining experience for the communities residents.

Essential Job Functions

• Checks in with supervisor or manager to learn assigned pre-meal responsibilities.
• Covers assigned work station throughout entire meal, following all established food handling, service standards, and sanitation procedures.
• Assesses the menu items ingredients for quality, wholesomeness and quantity, reporting any concerns to the café supervisor.
• Takes orders from the patrons, completes the orders efficiently, complying with the established standards for food preparation and presentation.
• Reports all resident compliments/complaints to the supervisor or manager.
• Assists in the training of new servers under the direction of the supervisor/manager.
• Follows all established work safety rules, notifying the supervisor of any observed safety concerns.
• Assigns and assists the supervisor/manager in the setup, service and breakdown of resident luncheons, as requested.
• Maintains a strict “clean as you go” policy, assuring a clean professional work environment.
• May assist with service at catering events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Critical Skills and Knowledge Necessary

• Able to follow and understand directions
• Able to establish and maintain a good rapport with the residents
• Rudimentary exposure to dining room service in either an institutional, cafeteria or restaurant type setting

The critical skills and knowledge required to successfully perform the functions of the position are normally obtained thru the completion of a high school education and 3-6 months of dining room experience.

Physical Demands 

• Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 35 pounds maximum
• Frequent walking/standing
• Frequent balancing on slippery surfaces 
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
• Occasional reaching at all levels from below knees to above shoulder height 
• Frequent handling involving simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, pulling and wrist twisting 
• Occasional fine finger manipulation
• Occasional talking and hearing
• Occasional near acuity (20" or less)
• Occasional far acuity (20 plus feet)
• Occasional twisting of both the upper and the lower trunk

Environmental Conditions

• Inside - 100%
• Located in a well-lit, ventilated, heated kitchen environment
• Occasional exposure to extreme heat/cold with temperature changes
• Frequent exposure to wet/humid situations
• Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels
• Occasional exposure to odors
• Occasional exposure to toxic/caustic cleaning chemicals
