We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Director Clinical Documentation position that will be based in our Clinical Effectiveness department. This position is based at our corporate office in Altamonte Springs, FL.  
This position provides expertise in clinical documentation requirements that serves to improve the quality and outcomes of patient care.  The CDI Director provides expertise in documentation requirements for AHS facilities in an effort to ensure medical record documentation conveys accurate, concise data that reflects severity of illness and intensity of service in the delivery of patient care. 
Under the guidance of the Senior Medical Director of Comprehensive Clinical Documentation and Integration Management, the CDI Director provides leadership and provides recommendations to improve and expand CDI programs.  Central to this oversight includes training for software enhancements and expanding CDI initiatives that are an integrate part of facilitating optimal patient outcomes including compliance and accurate reimbursement.    
Specific job duties include:
  • Provides direction to help assure that the level of physician documentation in the EMR accurately reflects the severity, intensity, and complexity of patient care.
  • Demonstrates advanced clinical documentation expertise for CDS programs that align with practice excellence for all AHS facilities.  
  • Directs CDI advanced practice calls to provide education to CDS nurses that provides up to date practice guidelines and addresses issues or concerns raised by CDS leadership or staff. 
  • Manages monthly compliance audits and collaborates with CDS leadership on process improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees education of CDI Best Practice via communication through newsletters, advanced practice calls and meetings with multidisciplinary teams at the Corporate and facility levels.   
  • Collaborates with CDI team and Senior Medical Director to explore opportunities for program improvement and expansion as directed by AHS Senior Executives. 
  • Collects and analyzes data for reporting, tracking and trending purposes.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reports for distribution to AHS facilities and corporate leadership as directed.
  • Develops and maintains liaisons with Compliant Management Documentation Programs at the state and national level to build working relationships within the healthcare industry. 
  • Collaborates on case analysis review with fellow team members including corporate Medical Director to provide feedback and recommendations to facilities CDS teams and physicians. 
Experience Requirements:
  • Three to four years’ experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist in the acute hospital care setting required
  • Three years’ minimum leadership experience in the area of clinical documentation preferred
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor prepared Registered Nurse required
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist required
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Maintains certification/credentialing of related accountabilities to demonstrate expertise in all facets of clinical documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of hospital reimbursement models and trends that directly affect quality of care and outcomes reporting.
  • Ability to analyze complex case data and provide detailed guidance on improving documentation efforts.
  • Plans and supports development of individual’s knowledge and skills that seeks to effectively improve CDS performance.
  • Presents ideas effectively to individuals or groups and delivers presentations that are appropriate to meeting the needs of the audience. 
  • Motivates individuals to achieve higher levels of performance that are in alignment with the organization’s vision and values. 
  • Prioritizes responsibilities, measures progress and validates accountabilities against those metrics.
  • Advanced clinical practice within the acute care hospital setting.
