We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Director of Privacy and Education position that will be based in our Corporate Responsibility department. This position is based at our corporate office in Altamonte Springs, FL.  
This position is responsible to direct the programs, policies and practices relating to patient privacy.  Job responsibilities include working with the Regional Corporate Responsibility Officers to ensure that all business units are in compliance with the applicable federal and state laws relating to privacy.  The Director is also responsible to direct the development, direction and coordination of system-wide Corporate Responsibility education activities and to assist in the development, direction and coordination of business-unit specific Corporate Responsibility education.    
Specific job duties include:
  • Maintain and implement policies and processes that enable consistent, effective privacy practices which minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI), paper and/or electronic, across all media types.
  • Provide oversight and support for privacy compliance from the corporate level.
  • Work on identification of compliance risks for the organization and develop plans for mitigation. 
  • Provide support to Regional Corporate Responsibility Officers for privacy concerns. 
  • Collaborate with the data security office to ensure alignment between security and privacy compliance programs including policies, practices, and investigations.
  • Ensure the maintenance of an ongoing process to track, investigate and report inappropriate access and disclosure of protected health information. Monitor patterns of inappropriate access and/or disclosure of protected health information.
  • Provide oversight or conduct, as needed, privacy risk assessment/analysis, mitigation and remediation.
  • Provide oversight or assist in the development and delivery of ongoing privacy training to the workforce.
  • Provide oversight in compliance monitoring of business associates and business associate agreements to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed.
  • Provide oversight for required breach determination and notification processes under HIPAA and applicable State breach rules and requirements.
  • Oversee the process for investigating and acting on privacy and security complaints.
  • Facilitate and promote activities to foster privacy awareness within the organization.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for the implementation and management of system-wide compliance and privacy education programs.
  • Serve as the Florida HIE Privacy Officer.
  • Serve as the AHS Patient Safety Organization Privacy Officer.
  • Develop and implement employee orientation training and on-going education.
  • Assist the Regional Corporate Responsibility Officers in developing region or facility specific education.  
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of five years healthcare regulatory, compliance and privacy experience at a management level.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Degree preferred in Business Administration, Finance, Nursing or other healthcare related field.
  • Privacy certification required to be obtained within the first year.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Ability to understand the healthcare regulatory environment, including Stark, Anti-Kickback and federal and state privacy laws, including HIPAA and HiTech.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate (verbally and written) with senior leadership and all other levels of personnel throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrated organization, facilitation, written and oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
