Job Description

TB Wood's, Inc., an Altra Industrial Motion company, is seeking a Buyer/Planner, located in Chambersburg, PA.  This position is full-time, exempt.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Purchasing:

  1. Develop and maintain vendor partnerships
  2. Develop and implement cost saving efforts with suppliers
  3. Participate in supply-based continuous improvement in cost, quality and delivery
  4. Identify new sources of supply
  5. Coordinate supplier involvement in new product design
  6. Interact with Engineering department for new products
  7. Negotiate price, terms, delivery, etc. with suppliers
  8. Assist Quality department personnel with vendor material issues
  9. Solicit quotations for non-stock purchased parts
  10. Prepare purchase orders and ensure proper communication of order to supplier
  11. Review inventory levels and lot sizes for purchased stock parts
  12. Process Change Notices for appropriate product lines
  13. Process NCMRs for appropriate product lines
  14. Actively participate in production meetings
  15. Review and reconcile/resolve problems that occur regarding purchased parts
  16. Review and resolve purchasing shortages
  17. Evaluate make vs. buy alternatives

Planning:

  1. Create and release production orders for appropriate product lines
  2. Review inventory levels and lot sizes for manufactured stock parts
  3. Work to reduce lead times through efficient planning and scheduling
  4. Respond to inquiries from Customer Service and Sales personnel
  5. Assist in identifying and evaluating surplus inventory for disposal or possible use
  6. Process Change Notices for appropriate product lines
  7. Process NCMRs for appropriate product lines
  8. Investigate and assist in resolving inventory discrepancies
  9. Actively participate in production meetings
  10. Review and reconcile/resolve problems that occur regarding manufactured parts

  • MRP or ERP experience
  • Proficient Excel ability and familiarity with other Microsoft Office products

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in business, economics or engineering with purchasing or materials management experience
  • 1-3  years experience in buying and planning for a manufacturing organization.

Working Conditions and Travel

  • Office, machine shop and foundry environment – exposure to noise and dust
  • Ability to travel overnight to suppliers and other company facilities is expected.
