Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY 

The position of Manufacturing Engineer Plans, develops and improves assembly and machining methods through the use of lean manufacturing techniques while maintaining and assuring the quality of products and components being assembled.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned which will generate manufacturing and/or sales improvement.

  1. Maintains and assures the quality of finished assemblies and machined components. Evaluates production and quality problems and takes necessary steps to correct and/or improve machining and assembly methods.
  2. Solves process problems in machining cells and assembly department.
  3. Evaluates and updates tooling and work stations. Works closely with the Product Engineering Department on major design changes and new product development.
  4. Prepares estimates for implementation of new methods, including labor, equipment, material costs and assembly capabilities. Reduces operating costs while maintaining quality levels.
  5. Provides technical support and instruction for manufacturing supervisors on new assembly and/or machining procedures.
  6. Represents the Company in technical matters dealing with outside vendors and/or customers. Travels to observe new methods, trade shows or workshops, customer visits and repairs as required.
  7. Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arranges for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  8. Participates in cost improvement programs.
  9. Participates in and may facilitate continuous improvement/kaizen events.
  10. Supports policy deployment goals and objectives.
  11. Investigates and recommends capital expenditures.
  12. Submits requests for capital improvements
  13. Reviews testing requirements and designs test plan and test floor layouts. Orders equipment and fixtures to support plan.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

  •    Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering. ME highly desirable, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

EXPERIENCE:

  •  A minimum of five years in manufacturing engineering, preferably in mechanical products (metal cutting and assembly). Additional requirements include strong knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, gearing and other power transmission productsis beneficial.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex engineering documents such as drawings, schematics, and technical journals. Strong written communication skills with the ability to effectively prepare operational manuals and product specification standards.                           
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communications skills which foster teamwork and collaboration and develops high quality working relationships in order to influence, gain support and achieve results. Must be able to communicate with both management and production employees effectively.                                                                                        
  •  Ability to utilize advanced mathematical concepts such as, standard deviation, probability, statistics, factor and regression analysis. Advanced level computer skills are required (EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT). Must know AutoCAD                                                                         
  •    Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions where limited standardization or information exists.

  •    Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems and to deal effectively with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

  • Assumes ownership of projects modelling professionalism, passion and initiative with projects and tasks. Responds to adversity or restrictions of the organization with resilience and tenacity. 

  •    Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and an advocate for change. Experience with lean manufacturing principles required. 

  • Highly productive with a strong sense of urgency and orientation to details, accuracy and excellent outcomes. Result-oriented with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and multiple priorities 

  •    Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
