Job Description

SUMMARY        

Responsible for directing material sourcing, purchasing and inventory control functions in accordance with policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals for customer satisfaction, cost and lead time reduction and inventory control.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plans and executes appropriate supply chain strategies to support organizational goals for cost control, lead time reduction and inventory reduction.         
  • Establishes policies and procedures related to the purchasing function, provides training to purchasing personnel and monitors performance to ensure compliance.
  • Performs regular review of supply chain performance and communicates issues regarding on time delivery and quality to appropriate supplier.
  • Determines and assigns goals for cost reduction, lead time reduction and inventory reduction and regularly monitors actual performance to target.
  • Works to develop close relationships to key suppliers in order to enhance supply chain performance.
  • Works closely with all departments to meet delivery schedules, including production, new product development and quality.
  • Evaluates and suggests Make/Buy decisions
  • Transition from MRP push environment to pull execution system.
  • Supports and participates in plant level kaizen events.
  • Negotiate MRO contracts and other major capital purchases.
  • May participate in Altra wide projects on an as needed basis.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by compliance with state and federal safety regulations. Enforces and promotes workplace safety procedures in their departments.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A minimum of a 4 year college degree in a related discipline is preferred with at least five years materials management experience, preferably in a lean manufacturing environment. Additional requirements include, strong negotiation and communication skills, proven ability to lead change through an organization, strong organizational skills and solid decision making skills. Proficient with MS Office products: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. SAP is preferred. MBA and Global sourcing or International experience is a preferred.               

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

APICS or NAPM certification is preferred.
