Job Description

TB Wood's Inc., a Division of Altra Industrial Motion is currently seeking a Secondary Machine Operator for our facility in Chambersburg, PA.

Job Summary:  Secondary machine operator works in a team in the preparation and finishing operations   Operator will work on all operations including but not limited to painting, boxing broaching, balancing and keyseating.



 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets–up and operates manual machines and other equipment assigned capable of operating all secondary machines.
  • Fully responsible for preventive maintenance and proper usage of assigned machinery, tools, and component parts in assigned cells
  • Follows Standard work Instructions and makes all programming and mechanical adjustments.
  • Adheres to all safety and health standards
  • Participates in Kaizan events and seeks to continuously improve work processes.
  • Inputs data to computer to ensure accuracy of inventory .
  • Ability to perform next job below and above in value stream.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic measuring , math, reading and writing skills
  • Basic blueprint reading, Inspection gauge and tooling skills
  • Knowledge of SPC, Mechanical aptitude and Computer literate Education and Experience:
  •  
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Blueprint reading and gaugingWorking Conditions:
  •  
  • Normal machine shop environment
  • Must wear personal protective equipment at all timesPhysical Requirements:
  •  
  • Manual dexterity, hand eye coordination ability to lift 50 lbs on occasion

Job Summary: Sets up and operates one or more Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, and other machines, within machine cell.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets–up and operates CNC machine and all other equipment in assigned Cell.
    • Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules, using computer network links.
    • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
    • Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences. Finished workpieces may be lifted manually or with hoists and cranes.
    • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
    • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems, as well as monitor control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Fully responsible for preventive maintenance and proper usage of assigned machinery, tools, and component parts in assigned cell.
  • Follows Standard Work instructions and makes all programming and mechanical adjustments.
  • May move from assigned cell to other cells at discretion of supervisor.
  • Adheres to all safety and health standards

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic measuring , math, reading and writing skills
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of SPC, Mechanical aptitude and Computer literate
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Able to follow directions.
  • Attention to Detail —careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 6 to 9 months on the job training or related vocational training program required

Working Conditions:

  • Normal machine shop environment
  • Must wear personal protective equipment at all times
  • Noise – Frequent exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels during shift. Hearing protection required.
  • Dust – Regular exposure to dust particles. Proper PPE required, when needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting Requirements – Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Bending, Kneeling and Squatting – Must be able to bend, kneel and/or squat during course of shift.
  • Standing – Must be able to stand, potentially for long periods of time, during shift.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness —Must be able to keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position.
  • Finger Dexterity — Must be able to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Manual Dexterity — Must be able to quickly move hand, hand together with arm, or two hands to grasp and/or manipulate objects.
  • Control Precision — Must be able to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Near Vision — Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
  • Hearing Sensitivity — The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness
