Job Description

  1. Fit up and weld various weights, sizes, shapes and materials. Determine current and voltage settings, electrode or wire grade and size to use in electric welding.  Select tips and use proper procedure required for gas welding and cutting.

  2. Preheat weldments as required to prevent cracking or distortion.  Do the necessary operations for the cleaning of weldments.  Perform layout and fit up procedures using blueprints.

  3. Be able to determine allowance for shrinkage and distortion when fitting up.

  4. Set up and operate various fabrication equipment and hand tools following approved procedure during the processing of parts and weldments.  Use precision measuring tools to check parts.

  5. Work from assembly and parts drawing to assemble, disassemble, and clean parts as required.

  6. Use precision tools to check dimensions, when assembling or checking and recording dimensions on products that are to be rebuilt.  Work with power tools (air grinders, electric drills, electro-etching, etc.)  Work with miscellaneous hand tools as required.

  7. Follow procedures and instructions as outlined on shipping order or as instructed on special modification sheets attached to order.

  8. Use hydraulic press for mounting or removing parts on shafts or other components.  Use heat for sweating parts on or off shafts or other components.  Use dry ice oil liquid nitrogen to shrink parts when required.  Apply rust preventative material (oil, grease, paint, etc. ) to parts or units as required.   Hand stamp required information on parts or units as required.  Use overhead cranes for removing and holding material.

  9. Notify supervisor as to parts shortages, incorrect material received for assemblies, or discrepancies on orders or prints.

  10. Advise supervisor or other designated personnel on occasions when special or unusual conditions or situations arise in regard to that assembly of units.

  11. Perform other duties as required to maintain a sound operation.

  12. Keep work area safe, clean and orderly and maintain 5S requirements.

  13. Reliable workmanship is required as well as the ability to develop methods and processes to help in the overall performance of the department.  Also requires the solution of problems to include the design of tools, special equipment, etc.

  14. Operate Material handling equipment, (Jitney, cherry picker, etc..) to retrieve work materials from staging areas and cold storage, and unload trucks.

  15. Set up and operate Magnaflux machine.

Job Requirements

The following criteria are established as a minimum for all jobs and new hires. 

1). Shop Trade Knowledge/Education with a High School diploma or equivalent

The basic knowledge or “scholastic content” essential as background or training preliminary to learning the job.  (As an example: A CNC job would require an individual to have some CNC knowledge/education, while a non-CNC job would require an individual to have some machining knowledge/education.) 

2). Drawings/Specs

The reading and comprehension of drawings/specifications and/or written instructions.

3). Measuring Instruments    

The correct reading and recording of measuring instruments that are required in the job

4). Shop Math                     

The required mathematical abilities to perform the necessary functions of the job

5). Knowledge of theory and Practice

The basic understanding or knowledge of the required theory and practices needed to perform the job.

6). Demonstrated Ability      

A level of demonstrated ability needed to be able to perform all of the above functions of the job.
