Job Description


First Quality is a privately-held group of manufacturing companies who are leaders in their respective field.  The organization is run by hands-on owners with dynamic expansion plans to significantly increase the size of the business over the next few years. 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer for our state-of-the-art Consumer Tissue Product facility in Anderson, SC.  This position is responsible for the specification, selection, purchase, installation, and startup support of major capital projects, to improve efficiencies, quality or expand the manufacturing operation.  

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for executing machine design changes to lower costs and/or improve quality while ensuring customer requirements are met.
  • In conjunction with Quality Assurance and Operations, will review quality and efficiency trends, track root causes of problems, and evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Reviews and approves process procedures and customer specifications.
  • Proposes, negotiates purchases, installs, starts up, and validates new equipment.
  • Utilizes project management skills, prepares timelines, schedules, and coordinates multiple disciplines to meet required schedules.
  • Interacts with representatives from a variety of functional groups, including Process Engineers, Purchasing, Customer Service, Maintenance, Production, Planning/Purchasing, and Quality Assurance.
  • Writes procedures and manuals and trains operating personnel.
  • Observes all safety rules and uses proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Follows necessary GMP, FDA, and ISO regulations/guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • 5+ years’ extensive experience in design and installation of high-speed consumer products, packaging, or web converting equipment.
  • Proven experience managing projects from $10K - $1MM, including budgetary responsibilities.
  • Experience with process materials including adhesives, papers, or fibers preferred.
  • Proficiency in Six Sigma, DOE, SPC, and other Quality related programs preferred.
  • Experience with FDA medical device regulations, ISO 13485 or equivalent preferred.
  • Standard knowledge and close tolerance of high speed manufacturing equipment, material handling concepts, material flow concepts, and plant layout.
  • Experience in developing and conducting training programs preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge of cost accounting principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional analytical problem solving, attention to detail, equipment vendor management skills, and strong computer skills are needed to be successful.
