EGW is the premier distributor in the South Central Region of the United States and is experiencing steady growth as it continues to serve the natural gas distribution, waterworks and plumbing industries. We are a traditional wholesale distributor in the natural gas industry focused on supporting four areas within a gas utility including construction/maintenance, service, metering and damage prevention. Our role in the waterworks and plumbing market is that of a master wholesaler. We utilize a national network to distribute our own White Rhino branded products and other well-known brands. The Position

EGW is searching for a Director of Operations who is accountable for inventory management including purchasing and customer order fulfillment from entry of orders to assembly/fabrication/repair to warehousing and shipping products to customers. The Director is a part of the EGW leadership team and represents the Operations department in company decision making, improvement initiatives, strategic & operational planning and achieving company goals. 

The Director of Operations establishes departmental goals, standards, metrics, processes and training to ensure inventory is optimized and customer orders are fulfilled on time focusing on quality management and delivering on the company’s mission of providing superior customer service.

The Director continually improves company processes and optimizes the company’s use of its ERP and other systems. The Director of Operations also utilizes the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS - www.eosworldwide.com/what-is-eos#axzz4QgbUIT38 ) management system and identifies and resolves inter and intra-departmental issues.  As a distributor, inventory management is a core competency and the Director has primary accountability for implementing a system to ensure EGW is best-in-class in this area and managing the operational aspects of supplier relationships.  As EGW moves more into light manufacturing and assembly operations, the Director develops and deploys appropriate processes and procedures, utilizes best practices, and employs techniques such as lean manufacturing to ensure efficiency and quality.

The Director of Operations is responsible for hiring and supervising five direct employees while overseeing their respective teams including two Purchasing Agents, the Customer Service Manager, the Warehouse Manager and the Production/Fabrication Manager.

Performance in this position will be measured by: achieving and maintaining the optimal level of inventory, customer satisfaction ratings, on-time delivery of orders, producing high quality / low cost products, adherence to the EOS management system, and quarterly and annual goal achievement.  Of equal importance is the skill in managing and inspiring those who report to the Director and creating a high performance Operations team that lives by the company’s Core Values and delivers on the company’s mission and vision.

The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Expectations of the Director of Operations

The Director of Operations comes prepared to all meetings, asks informed questions, completes action items on-time, and makes a constructive contribution in all discussions.

The Director builds strong trust-based working relationships with other members of the EGW leadership team including the CEO, COO, Controller, Sales Managers, and HR Director and works with them to resolve cross-departmental issues and develop and execute company strategic plans and goals.

The Director of Operations works with those he/she manages to:
Establish clear priorities, metrics and goals which capture what success looks like for the team and for individual staff members, and ensure that plans are in place for meeting those goals
Develop/improve processes and procedures that ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness
Give clear and actionable performance feedback helping people get better at what they do
Provide advice and mentoring to staff for career growth and development
Embody company core values and inspire staff to reach highest levels possible

Minimum Education& Experience
Hands-on experience in optimizing inventory levels & procurement, required
At least five years’ experience in managing people, required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, required
At least five years’ experience working for a distribution or wholesale business, required
Experience in light manufacturing/assembly operations and customer service, desirable
Experience with gas and/or water utility products, desirable
Working knowledge of ERP systems, required (specifically Epicor P21 is a plus!)
Experience with Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), desirable
