at Lutheran Social Services of Illinois

Job Description

Do you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children? Are you committed to strengthening families? If so, consider joining the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) team. For 150 years, LSSI has made a difference in the lives of children and families, and we’re still a strong, viable presence in the State of Illinois, continuing that commitment to making a difference.

LSSI currently has an open position for a Child Welfare Supervisor in the Intact Family Recovery program in Des Plaines, Illinois. This job requires flexibility, compassion, good communication skills (oral and written), the ability to work well with a variety of personalities, a commitment to providing a strong supervisory presence for casework staff, and openness to personal and professional growth. Above all, this position requires a desire to make a difference in the lives of children and families requiring intact family services. For more information regarding the specific job responsibilities of this supervisory position, check the LSSI web page at .

The Intact Family Recovery Programs serve a distinct population of families indicated for neglect or abuse by IDCFS upon delivering a substance-exposed infant. The programs also differ from other intact family programs, in expected duration of services. Cases are open for eighteen to twenty-four months, and can be extended if the mother becomes pregnant again during the time the case is open. Services are provided in three phases: I. Assessment and Pretreatment phase. II. Treatment phase. III. Aftercare. Also unique is the partnership of this program with an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) team, which provides ongoing substance abuse treatment linkage and support to the families. Client families are assigned both a CWS worker and an AOD worker, who collaborate to empower the family to reach and maintain sobriety and ensure that the safety and developmental needs of the child(ren) are met.
