Job Description

Position Summary:

The IADC WellCAP Instructor develops and facilitates instruction for IADC WellCAP certifications of Drilling - Completion Workover surface and sub-sea classification at the supervisor and manager level. This position also provides knowledge and performance-based assessments of worker competency, and provides technical consulting and troubleshooting services for external client managers and Parker Drilling rig management.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Administration

  • Produces required performance reports.
  • Maintains attendance and other records as required.
  • Troubleshoots and replaces fire detection and sprinkler systems and components.
  • Provides evaluation on contractor performance as needed.
  • Monitors and communicates information on competitor advantages and client needs.
  • Provides input on department strategy and plans.
  • Provides input on potential process improvements.
  • Provides feedback on training schedule.
  • Administers reports of trainee test results.
  • Maintains Safety Bulletin and Crew Safety Topics Manuals and Training Center bulletin board updated with all new safety bulletins.

Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation 

  • Working under the direction of the Senior Manager of Training Operations, supports the implementation of the training needs assessment process, both within Parker Drilling and with assigned client organizations. 
  • Performs audits to determine possible training needs at both a rig and Operations Manager level.
  • Provides input to the competency model. Training matrix, training map, and curriculum.
  • Suggests curriculum development changes needed to improve accuracy and delivery.  Updates curriculum.
  • Reviews training design documents and developed materials, and makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Assists in evaluating tests for accuracy and comprehensiveness. Assists in test validation.
  • Conducts pilots, evaluates, and improves curriculum before releasing for final approval and scheduling.

 Training  Delivery

  • Communicates training needs as communicated by client personnel.
  • Conducts instruction of IADC WellCAP and technical classes for present certifications.
  • Conducts training for all level of personnel including Operations  Managers,  Field
  • Superintendents, Rig Superintendents, and Rig Managers and Drillers.
  • Administers the training evaluation process. Reviews evaluation results to identify delivery improvement opportunities.
  • Attends train-the-trainer meetings, and conducts train-the-trainer meetings for classes that have been revised.
  • Administers tests to assess and certify trainee application of knowledge/skills.
  • Provides trainees with feedback on test results, and prescribes remedial actions as required.
  • Maintains a professional training environment.
  • Maintains effective relations with client personnel. 
  • Responsible for the safety of others while they are in training.

Consulting

  • Provides consulting and troubleshooting services internally and externally to integrated oil customers.  Service companies and operators.
  • Serves as expert to industry oversight groups and committees, and contributes to industry publications.
  • Participates in audits, inspections, and investigations for third party customer facilities.
  • Provides rig site supervision for clients.
  • Identifies and reports best practices in training and in well control operations

Secondary Job Functions

  • May recommend potential partners to help achieve department goals.
  • Supports the task analysis process.
  • Provides Input on technology selection.
  • Performs periodic equipment inventories.
  • Maintains simulators.
  • Communicates feedback received from clients on Parker Drilling Training website, communication, and marketing efforts.
  • Provides input on standards for training facilities.
  • Follows maintenance procedures for facility and assists in the proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Promotes Parker Drilling Training Center, and markets Training Center expertise and training programs to current and potential customers.
  • Perform other duties as required

Job Requirements

Professional Experience: 

  • Must have 10 to 15 years oil field experience at the Tool Pusher level or above. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Proficient in oil field math.

Education: 

  • High school degree required. 

Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess the education, experience, and knowledge that will enable Parker Drilling Company to secure approval from IADC Accreditation & Certification review panel and International Well Control Forum to perform the duties of WellCap instructor.
  • EMT certification is preferred.
  • Possesses valid driver's license.
  • Possesses strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, diplomacy,  and teamwork skills.
  • Possesses reasoning ability to develop innovative solutions to problems that may arise in the classroom and/or in the field.
  • Possesses ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to speak English  
  • Possesses ability to interact with diverse cultures and demonstrate effective client relations.

 Physical Demands and Work Environment: 

  • This position requires standing, walking, lifting  heavy materials (maximum 20 pounds), carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and repetitive wrist and hand movements,  as well as hearing seeing, (including depth perception and peripheral vision), and ability of rapid  mental coordination.  Must be mentally alert for entire regular shift.
  • This position works inside in a climate-controlled environment, but may be exposed to varied work conditions as job responsibilities include extensive travel around the world.  This position will also work outdoors in very hot and very cold climates performing demonstration of equipment use and safety.
  • Must be able to travel extensively domestically and internationally.  Transportation to rig locations is by one or a combination of transportation modes: airplane, vehicle, crew boat, workboat, and/or helicopter.  One must be able to use these types of transportation without any trouble.
