Job Description


The Staff Engineer takes total ownership of Division’s engineering responsibilities by providing operations support and expertise. Operations support includes, but is not limited to, engineering, design, upgrades, rig modifications, and equipment specifications. This position is also responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance for all applicable designs and fabricated items.  The Staff Engineer will act as the interface point between the client, Operations and Technical Services Group.



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Primary job functions for this position may include the following items:

  • Total Ownership of the Division’s engineering responsibilities
  • Proactive and positive client engagement
  • Interface with existing and new customers and vendors
  • Provide requested updates in a timely manner to all functional groups within the Parker Drilling Canada office
  • Create and review engineering and design documentation
  • Create engineering and design document(s) to support Technical Service Requests (TSR's) and other projects.
  • Review and comment on engineering and design document(s) for Technical Service Requests (TSR's) and projects.
  • Support project controls related to engineering.
  • Manage vendors and fabricators to ensure delivery of equipment, structures and/or piping.
  • Engineering design of existing equipment modification projects and new equipment items design as per request from Operations.
  • Engineering Design, 3D Modelling and Drafting by producing good quality working drawings, elevations, and details as per project requirements.
  • Writing technical specifications and procedures.
  • Maintain and retain complete and accurate business records in accordance with company policies and relevant external audit bodies, as required.
  • Attend face to face meetings with customers and suppliers if required.
  • Develop test and commissioning procedures
  • Field trips and project execution surveys as required
  • May be required to perform additional duties and special projects as required

Job Requirements

  • Engineering knowledge in the design, construction and operation of drilling rigs.
  • Working knowledge of code requirements pertaining to the design, construction and operation of drilling rigs.
  • Proficient in engineering code requirements.


  • Graduated Engineer – Diploma in Engineering Technology degree in Mechanical, Structural, Electrical or Marine engineering from an accredited university
  • 3 years experience as design or project engineer
  • Excellent working knowledge of 2D Autodesk AutoCAD, 3D modeling design software using PTC Creo Parametric and similar software.


  • The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Russian language is helpful, but not required.
