Job Description

SkillStorm is seeking a Senior Network Engineer for one of our Fortune 200 Clients in San Diego.


  • Leads the design and implementation of network infrastructure to meet the dynamic needs of the our client's business units.  
  • Mastery of all aspects of the LAN/WAN including business critical ICS/SCADA infrastructure.
  • Spearheads team that maintains operational excellence and high availability of an enterprise network infrastructure that supports user, server, data center, and cloud technologies.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and recommendations on complex networking and IT projects/tasks.
  • Utilizes experience, industry best practices, and judgment to plan, implement, and automate technical solutions to meet the most difficult needs of the business.
  • Mentors junior level Network Engineers and works well in a high-pressure environment.


  • Prepares actual vs. plan reports, analyzes variances and shares results with Sr Mgmt.
  • Enterprise network operations:  Monitors, maintains, and supports business and ICS/SCADA network environments. 
  • Designs, installs, configures, and documents complicated network systems.
  • Contacts and coordinates vendor, carrier, and remote support when necessary to resolve high impact network issues and/or outages.
  • Plans, designs, tests, and implements technical solutions for multiple concurrent and multifaceted projects, either individually or as a member of a project team.
  • Performs expert technical analysis of software, hardware, and network systems. Maintains and operates network monitoring and diagnostic equipment for capacity planning, maintenance and diagnostic purposes.
  • Communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Performs diagnostic tests, notes symptoms, and gathers relevant problem/malfunction facts and data from users.  
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship for Network Engineers.  Provides immediate feedback to Project Managers and Managers on the health and well-being of the network.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties)


  • BA/BS degree preferred or equivalent experience. 


  • Minimum 5 years experience working on a Cisco based network.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an enterprise level environment supporting multiple, diverse sites.
  • Cisco VoIP/Collaboration experience a plus.
  • Cisco certifications a plus; CCIE preferred 
  • Ability to handle difficult Network Systems Administration tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience at working well in high-pressure situations and complex environments.


  • Expert understanding of the OSI networking model.
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding and experience configuring and maintaining networking hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, etc.  
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of key protocols such as TCP, IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, MPLS, BGP
  • At least 5 years experience in design and implementation of networks.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft services such as WINS.
  • Professional understanding of Change Management and its effects on ensuring business continuity.
  • Demonstrated expert ability to monitor the network environment using hardware and software tools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an outstanding level of user trust and confidence.
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Bilingual – (English/Spanish) speaker a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to walk or stand for 2 hrs at a time.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing a minimum of 50 lbs.
