We are seeking an experienced Supervising HVAC Mechanical Engineer to lead a team of engineers in our San Diego, CA office. Our team is looking for a candidate with significant mechanical design experience and minimum of 5 years’ experience in Project Management. This candidate should also have the desire to help maintain and grow our client base in the San Diego area.

Engineering Manager / Supervisor (HVAC Mechanical Engineer)

Job Responsibilities

As an Engineering Manager, you will oversee, coordinate and assign various projects to be performed by the Engineering team. You will be responsible for establishing design standards, specifications, and criteria for projects.

Engineering Manager Responsibilities:
  • Mentoring junior level employees and helping them develop in their professional careers
  • Assist with business development and project pursuits 
  • Act as Engineer of Record for designs that are executed under your supervision and direction
  • Supervising and leading coordination meetings
  • Delegating work load and supervising staff members as they perform their tasks
  • Performing staff resource management and review
  • Supervising preparation of reports and analysis of system options and building conditions
  • Maintaining interdisciplinary coordination with other trades/projects consultants
  • Participating in budgeting, scheduling, and staff management
  • Manage the engineering staff and staff projects adequately and efficiently
  • Monitoring all correspondence between staff, clients, contractors, owners, etc.
  • Assisting in the preparation of proposals and scope of work documents
  • Managing construction administrative duties such as field reports, responses to RFIs, processing bulletins and addenda, etc.
  • Directing CFD modeling efforts and reviewing results


Project Management responsibilities include:
  • Assuming responsible charge for the overall economic well-being of the assigned projects
  • Establishing project budgets and schedules and delivering projects on schedule and within budget
  • Communicate with clients in an engaging manner
  • Participating in QA/QC process of completed work by staff
  • Maintain client satisfaction and project efficiency
  • Communicate regularly with Client Leaders and Project Managers of other services who may be managing other projects for your same client


Engineering Manager / Supervisor (HVAC Mechanical Engineer)

Job Requirements

This management role requires a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with in-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, including all applicable building codes and industry standards. In addition to strong engineering skills, you will need a high degree of interpersonal and relationship building skills to be successful in this position. It’s the ideal opportunity for an Engineer who wants to further their career and is eager to grow their skills and mentor others.

Engineering Manager Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience working in a consulting engineering firm
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Project Management
  • Current P.E. registration as a Mechanical Engineer, is a must
  • History working with projects such as federal projects, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and institutional work; Healthcare project design, a huge plus
  • Ability to fully prepare a construction bid document and all the various phases of the project through documentation and construction
  • High-level of proficiency in design and calculation software
  • Working knowledge of Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems to ensure proper design coordination
  • Knowledge of ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) construction costs and ability to estimate and evaluate construction costs
  • Ability to conduct in-house and external seminars and/or publish articles and papers
  • Detailed legal understanding of documents and the processes involved during a construction project
  • Detailed knowledge of Life Cycle Costing analysis
  • LEED accreditation, highly preferred
  • Latest version of AutoCAD experience and REVIT experience
