About the position: KING 5 is looking for a technically-minded, seasoned journalist well-versed with audience engagement and social listening, to produce our 11p news broadcast. This experienced producer would look for user-generated, original and online content to be showcased in our late shows, digital, social and livestream platforms. This person will be expected to lead editorial discussions and teach others on the team in discovering unique, engaging community stories through a variety of channels. The ability to multi-task is crucial for success, as is the ability to clearly communicate. This position works closely with the executive producers to guide television and online producers, reporters, photojournalists, editors, assignment editors and anchors to lead content decisions.

KING Newsroom mission: We are continuously looking for fresh ideas and new approaches that will help KING showcase compelling stories for Western Washington. KING 5 is the number one station in the Northwest and produces more than 14 hours of local news and programming daily, providing the best content for our community. Our content is showcased beyond the TV screen so we must to leverage emerging digital and social technologies in the pursuit of growing our audience and interactivity across all screens.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

    1. Produce highly paced, energetic, creative newscasts that engage viewers and encourage them to stay up later!
    2. Have the ability to produce creative show opens that flow straight out of primetime programming.
    3. Write exciting and compelling news stories, create quality graphics and utilize our new set to enhance storytelling.
    4. Understand how to listen to and interact with the social audience to discover content.
    5. Lead the charge on building an AUDIENCE-FIRST newsroom on every screen by active listening, responding, and tracking metrics. Help produce and manage digital stories that engage readers and followers with relevant and interesting content online and on social media.
    6. Works closely with the Executive Producer, digital and social producers to identify content appropriate for individual platforms.
    7. Works closely with reporters, anchors and producers to find creative ways to engage with viewers throughout the day on digital platforms.
    8. Must be an excellent collaborator!

Job Requirements


  1. College degree with a minimum of 3 years producing experience
  2. ENPS, Axis, Vertigo, Power Point, experience desired
  3. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media understanding mandatory
