Job Description

KVUE-TV, Austin, Texas, the TEGNA Inc, ABC Affiliate, has an open position for its Receptionist and Social Media Specialist.

This position is the first face and often the first voice of KVUE. We place great value upon the responsibility of meeting and greeting visitors, clients and viewers in person and in social media. This position will have social media duties including audience engagement, listening and moderation, HR Assistant duties and maintenance of Audix and the Siemens phone equipment changes, including updating the internal phone list. You will also interact with our digital and marketing teams, and be expected to voice and address the concerns of KVUE’s audience.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

    1. Greet guests in person and viewers online via our social media channels. Use social listening skills to monitor viewer sentiment.
    2. Have a firm understanding of PR principles and respond as KVUE when applicable on social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
    3. Monitor local trends on social media and report them to the digital news team. Write local and social media-oriented stories for Post on KVUE’s Instagram account.
    4. Operates the Siemens phone system which includes receiving telephone calls regarding station programming, news, and promotional information. Directs other calls to the appropriate departments. Takes messages when necessary.
    5. Acts as lobby receptionist greeting and directing guest/visitors to their destinations and employee verifying ID’s as they enter the building.
    6. Maintains Audix system and makes changes to it as it relates to station hours of operation and holiday closures.
    7. Will assist the HR Director with the posting of open positions in Broadcast One Source (BC1S) and updating the request for the receipt of KVUE postings.
    8. Have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive personnel information, possess strong organization and communication skills, be customer-focused, detail-oriented, have the ability to multi-task, and the ability to demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy.

Job Requirements


  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Preferred Social Media experience and/or some college.
  • Familiarization with Siemens system is preferred.
  •  Excellent telephone manners; good verbal and grammar skills; patience and positive disposition with internal and external customers; ability to interact productively and positively with fellow employees; advanced interest in local news events and all social media platforms.
