Job Description

The optimal Career Services Coordinator candidate is responsible provides counseling, vocational guidance, & case management services to clients of a specified job placement program.  Oversees & coordinates client referral & placement services, & the solicitation & servicing of employer participants in the program.

This position is Full-Time & is located at our Fort Smith, AR Campus.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Achieves placement results in each program which are consistent with the college objectives. 
  2. Assists students & graduates in their job search to include the following:
    1. Preparation of a resume
    2. Preparation of appropriate cover letters & thank you letters
    3. Networking techniques
    4. Employment research techniques
    5. Completion of employment forms
  1. Interviews students & assesses vocational skills, education, training, employment background, emotional adjustment, & social skills
  2. Counsels clients to promote productive work attitudes and skills, & to set appropriate vocational goals based on qualifications, interests, & labor market conditions
  3. Develops quarterly placement action plans which include:
    1. Prospective graduate meetings for all programs
    2. Placement rates by program
    3. Visiting employers & inviting employers to visit the college
    4. Recommendations for improving placement activities
  1. Prepares & delivers presentations to employers & client groups to promote the college & employment-related services of the career services program.  Maintains a follow-up procedure with the graduates & the employers to determine the employment status of graduates & to determine the needs of the employer
  2. May train, guide, & supervise placement & administrative staff in job placement &/or test administration procedures
  3. Develops & implements job-seeking skills, training & associated activities of job development & placement
  4. Prepares a Career Development program for each participant & revises as necessary.
  5. Conducts professional development preparation of the curriculum in the program.
  6. Conducts continuous follow-up after job placement of graduates, completers & drops.
  7. Maintains a developed & implemented survey of job placement activities of students, & develops statistical history of these activities.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Associate’s degree in a related Administrative, Business, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences discipline with 1 to 3 years’ experience directly related to the duties & responsibilities specified. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge & understanding of job referral & placement procedures
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills & the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Interviewing & psychological/developmental evaluation skills
  • Database management skills
  • Ability to administer, score, & interpret standardized vocational aptitude & interest tests
  • Knowledge of career counseling principles & practices
  • Case management skills
  • Ability to develop & maintain confidential files & records
  • Ability to develop & present educational programs &/or workshops
