Job Description

Westmoreland Coal is looking for an experienced Mining Systems Specialist to design, implement, maintain, and support our growing mining systems infrastructure. You will be part of a IT infrastructure team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available mining systems that meet business objectives.

Job Duties and Competencies:

  • Establishes mining systems environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Maximizes systems performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting mining systems problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with vendors and other team members.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot mesh radio systems and related components
  • Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
  • Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., switches, wireless radios, etc)
  • Provide Level-3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues with mine networks, mining technology systems and PLC/SCADA systems
  • Manages Highly critical systems, imposed by governmental regulations
  • Lead company direction with new and emerging technology solutions
  • Maintain and manage data gathering systems
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Lead imitative’ s to integrate different technologies and platforms
  • Experience in a fast-paced support environment with industrial systems as a member of a 24x7x365 operations team
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies and products, independently using documentation and online resources.

Job Requirements

  • Proven hands-on mining systems experience
  • University degree in Computer Science or a related subject
  • Understanding of Surface and Underground mining operations
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols
  • Demonstrable understanding of Pegasys, Rajant, Motomesh and 802.11 wireless technologies
  • Understanding of industrial control system concepts and related technologies
  • Completion of MSHA part 48 training a plus
