Job Description

Westmoreland Coal is looking for an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support our growing network infrastructure. You will be part of a IT infrastructure team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.

Job Duties and Competencies:

  • Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards
  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization
  • Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access
  • Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Provide Level-3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Experience in a fast-paced support environment in a campus and industrial networks as a member of a 24x7x365 network and/or security operations team
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies and products, independently using documentation and online resources
  • Creative problem-solving – Resolve problems quickly and efficiently to provide ultimate customer service

Job Requirements

  • Proven hands-on network engineering experience
  • University degree in Computer Science or a related subject
  • CCNA or higher
  • Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, 802.11, QoS)
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Understanding of WAN technologies such as MPLS and DMVPN
  • Experience with firewall configuration and maintenance, Cisco equipment preferred
