Job Description

The function of the Operations Supervisor is the effective hands-on supervision of the daily operations with regards to the departments of responsibility. Managing people, process and a large client base in addition to excellent communication skills are key to this position. This role will support the branch’s ground, ocean/air import/export operation as required by ensuring outstanding and consistent customer service while at the same time supporting and creating opportunities to reduce operational cost and maximize profitability. The Operations Supervisor must proactively address service issues and meet customer's needs and expectations. Will supervisor a staff with the intention of anticipated growth.

Primary job duties and responsibilities are as follows: 

  • Work with Management to continually improve department operations with focus on productivity
  • Champion process and procedure to meet or exceed company KPI requirements
  • Manage key accounts and client base with high level of customer service, operational excellence, and proactive conduct including client visits to maintain strong relationship
  • Supervise and direct the desk level, day to day operations of the Operation Department(s)
  • Manage department and staff in managers absence
  • Responsible for overall team performance including staff development, recognition and training through daily desk level oversight, guidance and coaching
  • Will assign and manage work flow
  • Effectively deal with any issues that arise within scope of responsibility
  • Support sales initiatives through collaboration and participation in joint sales calls as required
  • Work with sales and customer service to transition business from sales to operations including the creation of SOP’s and communication with overseas offices
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

All Education and Experience comply with provincial human rights legislation.

Education and Experience include:

  • Post Secondary education
  • +7 years freight forwarding experience
  • +3 years proven supervisory experience
  • Proven ability as a self-starter, and able to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Good communicator, both verbally and written with tendencies to create collaborative engagements
  • Above average customer service skills
