Job Description

Senior Project Cargo Manager – The Manager will be responsible to provide commercial, technical, and operational support on specialized over dimensional and out of gauge project cargo shipments from point to point. The Manager is expected to be directly engaged to oversee and manage all shipment preparation activities with the client and project operational teams.  This position will be responsible for the pricing and procurement for ocean breakbulk and chartering services, transport services, air chartering services, and any additionally required services. This position is expected to make decisions to minimize costs, maximize profitability, mitigate any and all risk (i.e. financial, subcontractor, and operational), and ensure customer satisfaction post shipment execution.

The Manager will work closely with sales, commercial, and operations, as well as serve as the subject matter expert for project cargo shipments. This position will also lead development and expansion of logistics management services, provide improvement in pricing tools & internal processes, ensure commercial responses are highly competitive based on the initial strategy, ensure customers service expectations are clearly identified and articulated at the beginning of the bid process, and confirm that operational capabilities are in line with commercial responses. The Manager will also have significant customer interface in order to better understand our customers’ decision making process.  This position will report to the Vice President of Project Operations.

Specific duties:

  • Manage and lead the further development and expansion of the over dimensional project cargo product
  • Manage bid, pricing, and procurement for over-dimensional project cargo and develop the shipment methodology for operational handoff and execution.
  • Provide biweekly reporting statistics on
    1. Commercial activity for OOG/Project cargo
    2. Regional Vessel Chartering activity
  • Maintain communication with subcontractors (i.e. transport and rigging companies, ocean carriers, warehouse providers, stevedores, etc.) to place purchase orders, receive booking notifications, monitor important milestones and make sure to respect the process in place to achieve the agreed targets.
  • Planning and optimizing multi-leg (e.g. ocean and airfreight) and multi-segment (e.g. stop-offs) shipments.
  • Understanding different planning techniques including the functionality of transport management systems and load planning tools.
  • Developing new planning and optimization procedures for and with the team(s).
  • Regional logistics market knowledge including vessel activity, port and airport operations as well as relevant restrictions and regulations, and associated risks.
  • Carrier operating model knowledge.
  • Managing and partnering with service providers to ensure the best service for our client.
  • Ability to mitigate, manage, and justify cost overruns when they occur.
  • Oversee Consulting Services for Project Logistics
  • Perform post mortems on shipments and lost opportunities to better position Agility for future success
  • Execute on agreed upon strategy to create format for all Oil & Gas and Capital Project RFQ’s that shows true buy rates, carriers, validity, alternate options, conditions and also measure potential margin on high and low side to ascertain commercial risk.
  • Drive collaboration amongst other PL branches/regions around project cargo opportunities to help drive much stronger success and operational service
  • Expectation of strong commercial interface, at times as the lead customer contact and in other cases as sales support in order to help build Agility’s strategy around those customers
  • Gather market intelligence of customers, projects and competitors to facilitate and create a sound strategy to better position ourselves and ultimately secure more business
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years business experience
  • Global logistics, ocean chartering, transportation or international business background required

Education:

  • A. or B.S. degree strongly preferred
  • Foreign language skills a plus
  • Six Sigma training / certification a plus
  • Valid TWIC card required

Physical Demands:

  • Required to sit for long periods.
  • Able to maintain mobility and functioning while onsite in demanding conditions

Travel Requirements:

  • 20 to 40% both domestically and internationally (valid passport required)
  • Able to maintain mobility and functioning while onsite in demanding conditions

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of international logistics industry
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Strong customer presentation and interaction skills
  • Strong negotiation skills & financial acumen
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Results oriented
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Powerpoint), Smartsheet, industry related tools (i.e. Vessel Chartering and Mapping tools)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment
