Job Description

SUMMARY   Directly supports Altra’s efforts to drive a culture of continuous improvement. This role has responsibility for managing kaizen events and other improvement activities as dictated by Policy Deployment, Model Value Stream, and Daily Management. The ABSL will also take a leading role in developing the organization’s breadth and depth in ABS tools with a particular focus on building problem solving capability. This leader will also manage key projects involving cross functional teams to support strategic initiatives and key development programs.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Support Model Value Stream planning and development (Vision and Challenges) and execution on supporting A3’s.
  2. Support management in creating Policy Deployment, Bowlers, KPI’s and action plans.
  3. Manage and report on the portfolio of Kaizen activities
  4. Oversee the success of the kaizen events, including:
    1. Planning of events with a dynamic funnel process tied to Policy Deployment/Model Value Stream and Daily Management
    2. Event execution; and sustainment of kaizen event results
  1. Provide on-going master-level support and guidance on ABS principles/tools.
  2. Act as change agent in challenging existing approaches and performance.
  3. Shepherd implementation of ABS principles/tools to improve quality, on-time delivery, and reduce operating costs and inventory.
  1. Lead the development of strong problem solving capability and capacity within the organization. Provide direct support for Team Leader Development Program and other leadership development efforts.
  1. Conduct and/or coordinate local training in ABS tools to deepen organization’s understanding and capability.
  2. Maintain and improve lean knowledge through continuous education.
  1. Manage key projects/programs for the business.
  2. Assist other Altra businesses and Corporate ABS Team in the development and implementation of ABS tools and processes.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • S. Degree, preferably in Engineering or Supply Chain
  • 2-5 years of related experience in manufacturing, operations, continuous improvement, marketing or other related experience.
  • Experience in lean, ABS or other form of TPS is desired
  • Creative and progressive thinker with excellent interpersonal skills (positive, persuasive, motivating) and able to communicate effectively with others at all levels in the organization, in verbal or written form.
  • Ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, test theories, research alternatives and reach conclusions. Skilled in collaborative problem solving.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize activities to achieve short and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Flexible and adaptive approach to change.
  • Team player who can build partnerships while leading cross functional teams.
  • Self-motivation, drive, energy, and resilience.
  • Outstanding group facilitation, training, communication and presentation skills.

** Must be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.  Up to 50% travel - domestic and global.
