Job Description

SUMMARY

CNC Associate 1st shift Operates CNC machines to fabricate parts using programs and process documents. Assembles machined parts into complete units using process prints and instructions. Ensures conformity using various gauging and measuring techniques. Complies with and follows documented processes as they relate to start-up, manufacturing techniques, quality check schedules, PM’s, clean-up, and productivity, and record-keeping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects, aligns, and secures workholding fixtures, chuck jaws, cutting tools, attachments, accessories on lathes and machining centers.
  • Possibly could set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.      
  • Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using precision measuring instruments.  Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • May install machine replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment, and test operation to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
  • Participates in cell meetings and events.
  • May confer with engineers, Production Technician, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
  • Other duties may be assigned.      
  • During periods of varying product demand, may be assigned to various manufacturing duties across value streams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CREDENTIALS

High School Diploma or GED preferred. Previous machining background. General mathematical abilities. Knowledge of calipers and micrometers. Experience with geometric dimensional tolerances.

The ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, safety rules, quality instruction and process documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, technical and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, productivity charts, and production correspondences. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and managers, customers, clients and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Higher math skills including geometry and trigonometry and concepts necessary to prove out and modify part programs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
