Job Description

SUMMARY   TB Woods/ Ameridrives is seeking CNC and Manual Machinists in San Marcos, TX. Under minimal supervision, this individual performs the duties of setting up and operating numerically controlled and conventional machine tools within the machining area, producing a variety of diversified finished parts.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


  • Supports a safe work place environment.
  • Works from standard and complex drawings, instruction sheets, charts and/or verbal instructions.
  • Works to close tolerance on unusual operational requirements, as necessary.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling and monitoring cell operation to achieve maximum utilization.
  • Recommends method changes towards process improvement.
  • Sets up, runs and adjusts machine controls, tools and machine equipment to achieve size, finish and tolerance.
  • In conjunction with manufacturing engineers, debug and edit programs to achieve size to achieve proven machining cycle.
  • Analyzes and adjusts or corrects controls, tools and fixtures to maintain quality levels during production.

  • Keeps all related equipment in proper storage within work location.
  • Performs routine daily maintenance on equipment in assigned cell.

  • Operates manual work transporting equipment within machining area.
  • Keeps machines, equipment and general work area neat and orderly.
  • Applies the principles of ABS (LEAN Manufacturing) in accordance with Policy Deployment.
  • Applies multi-tasking skills often by operating multiple machines in a cell environment.
  • Skills required include and are not limited to:  turning, milling, broaching, sawing, grinding and drill and tap.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.


  • Machining/Manufacturing Technology AAS or diploma from an accredited school or 2 years related experience required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required  
  • Ability to read and understand complex blueprints.

  • Basic GD&T knowledge.
  • Proficient in set-up and operation of all shop equipment
  • Ability to perform complex arithmetical calculations.

  • Good understanding in use of metalworking measuring equipment.
  • General understanding of CNC programming.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance and over 50lbs with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand up to 10 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work to customer demand rates in a fast paced environment and meet production goals.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. 


LANGUAGE SKILLS  Must have the ability to read and write English is required.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  Must be able to perform arithmetical calculations.
