Job Description

The Controller is responsible for effectively assisting key leaders in the Jacobs Vehicle System (JVS) organization in managing financial aspects of the business. Specific tasks include reporting monthly results, assisting in forecasting future financial performance in monthly forecasts, annual budgets and strategic planning processes, and improving Finance Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to drive results within the business and the team.  Through innovative development, benchmarking, and proper implementation of policies and processes, the incumbent will have successful oversight of financial reporting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.   

This role be with the JVS team in Bloomfield, CT.  JVS is part of Altra (AIMC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all accounting requirements for the business (including financial close, internal and external audits, and various reporting requirements for corporate)
  • Establishes and enforces all control processes needed for safe and sound operation of the business
  • Coordinates the preparation of reports which summarize company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations
  • Lead JVS compliance efforts including Sarbanes-Oxley testing and documentation, Anti-corruption programs, internal/external audit efforts and adherence with corporate policies
  • Interprets and communicates the financial ramifications of business decisions and accounting changes to the Finance Vice President and other senior leaders to aid in future decision making
  • Assist Finance Vice President and Financial Planning and Analysis Manager with forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning
  • Drives continual improvement across the finance organization
  • Drive improvements in Free Cash Flow through effective working capital management of accounts receivable/payable.
  • Ensures accuracy and avoidance of accounting discrepancies and audit findings
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision to the Finance team
  • Develop and mentor finance team members

Job Requirements

Critical Competencies

  • Substantial working knowledge of US GAAP, auditing procedures, financial reports and data analysis
  • Possess strong business acumen
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Willingness to dive into the details to gain understanding of issues
  • Ability to see the big picture while focusing on the process and procedures necessary to produce deliverables
  • Ability to guide and lead direct reports through performance management and skill development processes
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product
  • Ability to meet and establish deadlines with a sense of urgency; efficient and timely in submitting financial reports and creating financial solutions
  • Open and responsive to change within a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other finance-related major required
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience as a Controller or similar financial leadership position
  • 5 years of manufacturing environment experience required
  • CPA, CMA or a Master’s degree highly preferred
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • JD Edwards and/or Hyperion preferred
