Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician Manager has a key mission to advance safety, quality, delivery, and productivity through associate development, support, and training. This individual will develop the Manufacturing Engineer Technicians team to assist operational initiatives for improved training and real-time support of our production associates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Makes resourcing decisions/assignments of Manufacturing Engineering Technicians to support production needs and advance manufacturing process.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining career development paths in the Manufacturing Engineering Technician team, while also providing individual talent development plans to maximize performance. 
  • Develops and supports on-the-job and classroom-based training initiatives.
  • Leads and instructs training classes as required.
  • Supports and provides instruction for new hire/new associate orientation and onboarding efforts.
  • Establishes scope and develops project plans for new training processes or product line support methods.
  • Provides technical leadership in the areas of motor design for manufacturability.
  • Serves as a process expert in one or more manufacturing areas/technologies.
  • Drives Altra Business System development and mindset within the team.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 10 years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Engineering Technician
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in motor or drives design and manufacturing process
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enjoys working with and developing a team of Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians with varying levels of experience; providing career development opportunities and mentorship to advance technical and personal/behavioral skills
  • Seeks out continuous improvement leadership opportunities and champions continuous improvement events to drive results, and develops team to effectively use the Altra Business System tools
  • Must be available and willing to travel to support site transitions, benchmarking visits, or supplier development as needed.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
