Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods for entire plant operation.

 Manages plant wide maintenance function to allow for a high level of equipment efficiency and utilization.

 Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. 

 Directs preventative maintenance program to assure timely completion of all required tasks.

 Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

 Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the timely purchase of Equipment, materials, or parts.  Evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards to maximize operational efficiencies.

 Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

 Extend Lean Manufacturing Principles within area of assignment.

 Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

 Contracts with and supervises outside contractors as necessary.

 Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements.

Other duties as assigned by manager.

     SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Understanding of Lean Principles as put forth by the Altra Business System.  Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

     MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     REASONING SKILLS

    Ability to define problem, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
