POSITION SUMMARY

The HR Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, direction, and active support for the TB Wood’s manufacturing and warehousing facilities in Chambersburg, PA and Sparks, NV in the following functional areas: talent management, employee relations, training & development, compensation, performance management, compliance, HRIS, benefits, payroll, and safety/workers compensation.

The HR Manager position functions primarily as a business partner but is also required to be hands-on and highly interactive with operations and division leadership as well as Altra corporate HR. The incumbent is considered a key member of the TB Wood’s leadership team. The role requires an emphasis on providing excellent customer service and HR expertise to the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct Human Resources team members and carry out managerial responsibilities related to talent acquisition, performance management, talent management, employee relations, training and development, compensation, employment law and compliance, HRIS, leaves of absence, safety, workers compensation, payroll, and benefits.
  • Recommend and implement real business solutions to drive performance and achieve results. Develop and lead the short- and long-term strategy for all HR policies, practices, and initiatives for the TB Wood’s business locations, while actively supporting plant/warehouse leadership and collaborating on solutions for the operations, people and organizational issues.
  • Partner with the management team to understand key performance issues, objectives and drivers and their implications for people and organizational strategies. Actively contribute as a member of the TB Wood’s leadership team with decision making, policy development, business planning, and plant functions or presentations.
    Provide internal consulting services regarding the interpretation and application of HR policies and processes. Participate in developing best practices and implementing policies and processes as applicable. Act as an advisor and coach to management on engaging employees and building talent capabilities effectively.
  • Execute the talent strategy within organization through managing and directing the annual performance review process and implementing a robust, standardized talent acquisition process that results in a sustainable high performance/high commitment workforce.
  • Continually seek opportunities for improvements and implement “best practice” initiatives that streamline transactional activities, increase productivity, reduce costs, and improve customer service. Drive problem-solving activities to resolve department and business issues and inefficiencies and increase employee satisfaction.
  • Work extended hours, including holidays and weekends, with regular availability to off shift (2nd/3rd) employees and leadership.
  • Occasionally travel (up to 10%-15%) domestically and internationally to other Altra sites in North America, as well as attendance at off-site meetings/events and professional development conferences or seminars.

    Strategically focused with a strong business acumen across all functions of the organization (especially with manufacturing operations) that complements a deep knowledge of core areas of Human Resources
  • A customer service and consultative mentality and approach that includes proactive interventions and solutions to issues and requests, a demonstrated willingness to go the “extra mile” while simultaneously promoting self-service and ensuring employee/manager satisfaction.
  • A strong sense of urgency with the ability to be highly productive and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, multi-shift environment that includes working under the pressure of production requirements, management requests, corporate/division deadlines, etc. Must have an orientation to details, accuracy, and excellent outcomes.

Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelors degree is required (advanced degree and/or professional certification is a plus), preferably with a concentration in Human Resources or related field.
  • 7+ years of HR generalist experience with progressive responsibilities in multiple HR functional areas. 
  • 2 or more years of previous management experience.
  • Prior experience in a global organization and multi-shift, fast-paced manufacturing production environment is strongly preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:    

Potential physical demands include but are not limited to:  frequent sitting and occasional bending and stooping. Must be able to work in a typical manufacturing facility and travel domestically to customer or vendor facilities which could entail walking, climbing and moving around working equipment.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Majority of time is spent in a general office environment, but frequent time will also be spent in a manufacturing production environment where personal protective safety equipment must be worn and proper safety precautions must be observed.
