Job Description

This Product Manager leads global product marketing for the systems product family, with a primary objective of profitable growth for the products. The work includes market research, strategy development, management of the product portfolio, commercial negotiations, external communications leadership, and promotions leadership. This role will join the Thomson Industries team in Wood Dale, IL. Thomson is part of Altra Industrial Motion (AIMC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Growth

  • Create, prioritize, gain commitment to pursue, and execute business cases for growth initiatives, including but not limited to:
    • expansion of existing product lines to grow in existing and targeted channels & vertical markets
    • development of new products
    • localization of commercial and operational resources to enable geographic share gain
  • Monitor, influence, and impact the active opportunity funnel in cooperation with the sales team and channel partners
  • Influence and support lead generation and qualification activities
  • Educate, train, and inspire sellers to effectively value sell our products and grow our market share
  • Conduct customer negotiations in cooperation with Sales
  • Establish forecasts, set and maintain key product metrics and indicators, and perform ongoing analysis to gauge product line health and the traction of initiatives

Margin Expansion

  • Develop and execute market-based, profitable pricing strategies
  • Identify, prioritize, and support cost reduction activities for the product line
  • Conduct key supplier negotiations in cooperation with Operations

Market Research & Strategy Development

  • Monitor, analyze, and proactively communicate market trends (including technology, product and service, market, channel, price, and competitive trends)
  • Lead voice of customer (VOC) and market research activities to discover new insights
  • Develop and maintain market maps (mekkos), price/value maps, and other tools as needed to describe the market and gain insights
  • Understand and articulate product and customer requirements
  • Use market knowledge and insights to create strategies for growth

Product Portfolio Management

  • Own and continuously update the product roadmap and idea funnel
  • Create, prioritize, gain commitment to pursue, and drive portfolio initiatives (including new product developments, customer-led product developments, sustaining projects, product end-of-life initiatives, and private label agreements)
  • Own and continuously improve the system data for the product family

External Communication and Promotions

  • Own and create comprehensive collateral and sales tools (both online and offline) to commercialize products and support all customer-facing associates
  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications to develop and implement external product promotion programs and creative campaigns while optimizing spending

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Track record of delivering market share, sales, and profitability growth
  • Expertise (or the technical aptitude to develop expertise) in linear motion products
  • Strong internal selling and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical thinking, technical analysis, and data manipulation skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, writing, and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel overnight and internationally up to 40% of the time
  • Ability to work effectively without close supervision

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or Business degree preferred
  • MBA preferred
  • >5 years in marketing and/or sales for a B2B engineered products manufacturer
