Job Description

Procure goods and services as required through approved sources of the supply chain assuring that the criteria of competitive pricing, on-time delivery, technical specifications compliance, implementing blanket and/or long term agreements, adherence to purchasing policies and procedures, and meeting customer requirements are met. Be a subject matter expert in Kanban, Material Flow, Inventory Accuracy, Demand Management and Production Scheduling. The successful candidate will take ownership of the departmental buying process, build relationships, and improve current state.

Negotiating requirements in terms of timing, quality, pricing, product specifications with suppliers.
• Commodity and other material ordering in response to production needs as indicated through demand and forecast planning utilizing the Kanban process.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities that drive the key box score metrics of the Magstop Value Stream.
• Utilize visual management to ensure material availability to meet internal and external customer demand. Monitor Kanban and reduce/re-size as necessary.
• Go and see audits of Kanban to check for: 1) material and no card, 2) card and no material, 3) no material and no card on board, 4) material being pulled from two bins, 5) material not in correct home location.
• Manage internal customers by proactively communicating issues and appropriately dealing with customer demand to ensure on-time delivery.
• Manage, monitor and evaluate supplier base to comply with established objectives within the Magstop Value Stream.
• Maintain an assertive follow-up system to ensure schedule compliance.
• Maintain market awareness as to changes in prices, trends in supply and demand and report information to management.
• Manage assigned supplier base to include basic negotiations on price, delivery, terms as required.
• Maintain a professional relationship with suppliers.
• Develop supplier relations that enable awareness of supplier capacity and future capabilities.
• Interface with business unit management and supervision, Customer Service, Planning, Quality, Finance, Engineering and Operations.
• Maintains a safe working environment by compliance with state and federal safety regulations. Development and enforcement of company safety rules.
• Supports and participates in plant level kaizen events.
• Meet or exceed established annual cost reduction objectives in this area (focus on total acquisition cost).
• Maintains a high level of inventory accuracy and timely inventory records to insure that balances are correct and parts are available.
• Responsible for enhancing plant throughput and reducing cycle times.
• Schedules raw materials on a timely basis, maximizing inventory turns.
• Evaluates and suggests Make/Buy decisions
• Negotiate MRO contracts and other major capital purchases.
• May participate in Altra-wide projects on an as needed basis.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 5+ years in Materials Management Specialist in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of Lean, thorough knowledge of Kanban principles, product component knowledge and assembly processes
• Experienced SAP user
• Experience as a Demand/Forecast Planner
Professional and excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as seasoned in negotiation
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong project and time management skills, as well as math and analytical skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with all functions to build positive relationships throughout the entire organization
• Proficient in Excel as a tool for data analysis
• Ability to problem solve and the ability to multi-task are required
• MBA and Global sourcing or International experience is a preferred
