Job Description

The Tool & Die Maker will support the manufacturing engineering team and production floor.  This role is hands-on in the cells, develop tooling, and fixturing.  This associate will work with the team to close associate suggestions, implement productivity improvements, and implement kaizen actions. This person will support Thomson Linear, an Altra company.


  • Adhere to all safety programs and policies.
  • Set up and operation of Tool Room machines (CNC & non-CNC), tools, and equipment including manual mills, lathes, band saw, and surface grinder to fabricate complex tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and components to support design and production needs.
  • Mechanical aptitude to trouble shoot cell tool and fixture problems and implement solutions.
  • Ability to create prints and drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Support new product introductions through fixturing concepts, design, and creation.
  • Be able to machine to tight tolerances with exceptional quality
  • Support plant engagement through completion of employee suggestions.
  • Helps train cell operators in the proper use of equipment.
  • Helps perform preventative maintenance of fixturing and tooling within the plant.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering team to develop productivity and quality improvements.
  • Perform duties of similar complexity as assigned by the Facility Manager and communicates essential information to the Facility Manager as required.
  • Adhere to all 5S responsibilities to create a safe environment for all Associates.


Job Requirements


  • High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete a blueprint reading course.
  • Ability to work from prints, sketches, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Understanding of basic programming language.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other associates of the organization.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
