Job Description

The Value Stream Manager is responsible for driving process improvements, fixture design and build, technology implementation, and new product integration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities related to new product integration include participating in design reviews, determining accurate production times, reviewing and developing product routings, schedules and structure, and determining equipment and tooling needs.
  • Recommends and implements engineering changes to existing products including modifying work instruction and routing, assisting Team Leads’ in the development of standard work and job instruction, determining equipment and tooling needs and availability, and suggesting design for manufacturability changes.
  • Evaluates and improves the manufacturing process by identifying process, tooling and autonomation opportunities, mistake proofing and eliminating waste.
  • Utilizes structured problem solving and root cause identification to resolve manufacturing issues, implementing solutions systemically where appropriate.
  • Works with the ABS Facilitator to institute cellularization and one-piece flow, reduce set-up and changeover times, implement visual management and workplace organization and orderliness.
  • Works cross-functionally with vendors, planning, materials and procurement, design engineering, quality engineering, and operations on improvement and cost reduction strategies.
  • Investigates new capital equipment needs and advises purchase through thoroughly collected and analyzed evidence as well as ROI.
  • Uses project management and technical skills to take a leading role in the further establishment of creating an environment for continuous improvement and positive change.

Job Requirements

Critical Competencies

  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must have knowledge machining and assembly practices, tools and fixturing.
  • Ability to work with vendors, customers, and employees.
  • Must excel at working in a team environment.
  • Must be familiar with product construction and application.
  • Must have complete knowledge of production scheduling and shop operations.
  • Must be a highly organized individual, who is self-motivated, and can work independently.
  • Must have very strong leadership skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills, including group presentations.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and or priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Must be computer literate, particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university with a concentration in manufacturing/tooling
  • Must have 3 or more years related experience and/or training
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
