Job Description


Certified Peer Recovery Specialist


Seeking compassionate individuals who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and who have a passion to use their personal experience to help support others.


 Will assist new clients with orientation, same day access and client engagement. Promote empowerment, self-determination, and coping skills through mentoring and service coordination.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide resources and /or research material as appropriate and document information provided.

  • Provide recovery-based Peer Support services and outreach to peers who struggle with a serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders who are experience difficulty transitioning from hospital/Jail to the community.

  • Development of community roles and support

  • Crisis support

  • Facilitate groups and the maintenance records of group attendance.

  • Provide support and serve as an advocate within the MHSA community. Share personal experiences, skill, strengths and resources.

  • Assist with transportation as needed and required.




Special Credentials


  • Requires CPRS Certification by VA DBHDS or certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist.

    • Graduation from Peer to Peer Support Specialist Training, or WRAP Facilitator training.

     


 


PAY $13.71



Job Requirements


Qualifications:


  • Combination of education (high school degree) and/or experience equivalent to three years working in a community setting required.

  • Life experience with mental illness, substance use disorder or co-occuring mental illness trained to offer support and assistance to helping others.

  • Strong knowledge of community resources and personal experience in recovery required.

  • Experience and Knowledge of self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.




Special Credentials

    • Graduation from Peer to Peer Support Specialist Training, or WRAP Facilitator training.

     



Employee to provide the following at time of hire, valid current CPR/First Aid certification, TB test, VA or NC driver’s license
