Job Description


Peer Support Specialist


We have positions in the following programs


  • Mental Health/Substance Abuse
  • PACT Program
  • PATH Program
  • PROJECT LINK

 Seeking compassionate individuals who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and who have a passion to use their personal experience to help support others.


 Job Responsibilities


  • Provide Recovery based services and outreach to peers who are experiencing  difficulties in the community

  • Provide consumer and family education related to recovery & assist the family and other members of the team to understand clients experience

  • Assessment of recovery goals

  • Prepare and facilitates WRAP& wellness groups

  • Assist with obtaining resources, link to services, advocacy & transportation

  • Monitors progress for continuity of care

  • Assist with scheduling and keeping appointments



Knowledge and Abilities


 


  • Knowledge of human behavior

  • Knowledge of clients rights

  • Recovery principles and WRAP Planning

  • Ability to communicate with clients, families and co-workers

  • Knowledge of community resources

  • Medicaid billing requirements

  • Crisis prevention and intervention

  • Strong written and oral communication

  • Group facilitation

  • Able to manage multiple priorities

Special Credentials


 


  • Graduation from Peer to Peer Support Specialist Training, or WRAP Facilitator training.


 



Qualifications:


 


  • Combination of education (high school degree) and/or experience equivalent to three years working in a community setting required.

  • Strong knowledge of community resources and personal experience in recovery required.

  • Experience and Knowledge of self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Must be able to provide personal experience in recovery, please show on resume when applying.




Employee to provide the following at time of hire, valid current CPR/First Aid certification, TB test, VA or NC driver’s license
