Job Description

Position Profile:

The Sr. Buyer/ Network is responsible for the procurement management of network initiatives related within the ABB Business Unit. In this role you will contribute to building the procurement strategy with category managers for their respective category, engage with the suppliers for RFx by negotiating terms and implementing contracts, steer supplier performance through the use of best-in-class practices such as periodic performance reviews and audits and will be the primary liaison between  BU Field Engineering and Procurement Teams. This position reports to the Director of Procurement.

Responsibilities:

•        Work with other internal and external Stakeholders in meeting deadlines and objectives

•        Understand and challenge and the needs of the business unit

•        Complete spend and cost data analysis to drive potential cost reduction opportunities

•        Submit requests for information (RFI) to suppliers that present the potential to accommodate the needs of the business

•        Create requests for proposal (RFP) and send them to short-listed suppliers that expressed both the interest and capability of meeting the business requirements

•        Communicate with the supplier to ensure all necessary terms are included in the contract draft (price, quality, payment & delivery terms etc.)

•        Collaborate with the Contract specialist to review the clauses in the contract

•        Schedule periodic performance reviews with the supplier

•        Define objectives to ensure a clear path to success with supplier, aligned with Procurement Excellence Supplier Performance Management (SPM) framework

•        Plan and implement corrective actions and escalate matters that prevent progress in a timely manner

•        Conduct yearly reporting and feedback

Job Requirements

Essential Skill Requirements:

•        Bachelor's degree or related discipline  

•        Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement and or engineering

•        Experience in the telecommunications sector (particularly cable being an asset)

•        Project management experience

•        Highly proficient in using and manipulating documents in excel

•        Contract Negotiation skills and commercial sense

•        Familiar with telecommunications/CATV technology hardware and datacenter concepts

•        General knowledge of transport technologies (DWDM, or leased circuits)

•        General understanding of servers (blades, rackmount) and SAN disk storage

•        General understanding of virtualization products such as VMWare

•        Ability to analyze quotes from vendors to present to management for review

•        General understanding of networking fundamentals and components (Routers, Switches, Firewalls)

•        Understanding technical licensing of features or applications

•        Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

•        Self-sufficient and innovative

•        Good teamwork and ability to develop interpersonal relationships

•        Strong and structured communication techniques

•        Ability to read and understand legal documents and contracts

•        Fluency in English (written and oral)
