Job Description

Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc., a growing company located in Syracuse, NY, and one of the largest restaurant companies in the U.S., has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join us in the role of Senior Tax Accountant in our Tax Department.

This position will focus primarily on ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local income tax filings and tax financial reporting requirements.

  • Calculate all book/tax differences for year-end tax provision and for income tax filings.
  • Calculate state adjustments to federal taxable income.
  • Calculate and file federal, state and local estimated income and franchise tax payments.
  • Prepare and file all appropriate federal income tax returns for all Carrols companies.
  • Prepare and file state and local income and franchise tax returns for all companies.
  • Prepare annual budget for state franchise tax expense and income tax expense.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations for state franchise tax expense.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for state and federal income tax expense.
  • Perform regular analysis of various general ledger accounts for potential tax impact.
  • Monitor state and federal legislative changes for potential impact on Carrols' tax liability.
  • Assist with various federal and state revenue agent audits.
  • Maintain tax depreciation schedules and reconciliations to GAAP schedules.
  • Provide information to outsourced company for preparation of personal property tax returns.
  • Monitor due dates and process payments for personal property taxes.
  • Assist with personal property tax audits.
  • Prepare annual budget for personal property tax.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Experience/Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. 5+ years' experience with Corporate Taxation required. Experience with corporate income tax preparation software desired. Must have the ability to reach logical conclusions, make decisions or render judgement based on the evidence at hand. Must be able to establish an appropriate course of action to accomplish a specific goal. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other related software.
