Job Description

Primary job functions and performance expectations:


  • Provides direct services to justice involved adolescents and adults involved with Shelby County Jail, Shelby County Regional Detention Facility or Shelby County Juvenile Probation
  • Ensures that all necessary information is obtained at the assessment interview.
  • Renders accurate diagnosis based on available information and according to DMH requirements and refers to appropriate level of treatment

  • Exercises proper judgement as to when and where clients are referred
  • Facilitates Substance Abuse treatment groups and individual sessions according to local and accepted professional standards
  • Provides or refers to case management when needed according to local and acceptable professional standards
  • Responsible for maintenance of client files with completion of documentation that is concise, accurate and complete
  • Provides consultation to community agencies regarding addiction/codependency issues
  • Provides accurate expert witness testimony at court/attorneys request
  • Assures prompt and appropriate response in emergency situations
  • Develops and implements appropriate treatment goals within a client plan
  • Serves on after hours on-call rotation for justice involved programs
  • Provides Batterer’s Intervention Groups for Shelby County DV Court referrals as per agreement
  • Obtains/Maintains Certification in EBP Program as identified by Shelby County DV Court
  • Provides weekly reports to Shelby County DV Court

Maintains and provides liaison and education for the Center, other community agencies, and the general public

  • Consultation and Education presentations are presented in an professional manner
  • Presentations are accurately targeted toward audience
  • Effectively serves as a positive advocate for mental health services in the area

Maintains and improves Professional Skills.

  • Attends and actively participates in professional workshops, (as approved by Coordinator) and completes Relias training as assigned
  • Completes ADMH training as required for ASAM Placement

Assessments, Treatment Planning and Case Management

  • Effectively utilizes people on staff for consultation.
  • Participates in minimum of 4 hours documented supervision each month with assigned clinical supervisor if licensure or certification has not been obtained.

Maintains productivity requirement of 100 hours per month


Job Requirements

Minimum requirements are a Masters Degree or above from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, or other behavioral health area and has successfully completed a relevant clinical practicum OR has six months post masters clinical experience and holds a SA Counselor credentials. LPC or LICSW preferred but not required.
