Electrical Engineer - Hybrid Electric Vehicles + High Power/Voltage
 
Location: San Jose, CA 95119
Duration: 6 months (estimated)
 
You MUST be a US Citizen.
 
Hybrid Electric Vehicles are constantly in the news.
 
Mostly you only hear about commercial vehicles.
 
The Army has a next generation combat vehicle.
 
You can probably guess... this is a much more complex vehicle, with incredibly demanding requirements.
 
That's where you come into the picture.
 
We need your help to support design, development, integration and testing of high power inverters/converters and controllers used in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) propulsion for combat vehicles.
 
You have probably been keeping up-to-date with state-of-the-art industry practices, trends, and applications especially with electric vehicles, and maybe even hybrids. You can apply your knowledge and abilities to enhance the vehicle technical capabilities, and even contribute to our company strategies and practices.
 
You have experience using lab test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, CAN bus diagnostics tools, data acquisition such as LabVIEW for test and verification. And you know SPICE for electrical schematic captures and simulation.
 
And, you're familiar with DC and AC military specifications, or commercial power standards and testing requirements.
 
You're going to need to work in a lab environment with high voltage and high current components. You'll be working with high-power at power levels greater than 100kW and voltages greater than 500V.
 
And, you need to be able to move about a large military vehicle during integration and test activities.
 
It's critical that you are productive on Day-1, and to do that, you need the following in your background...
 
Required:
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years experience with Bachelors, or 5 years experience with Masters
  • Experience with modern semiconductor power switching devices and isolated gate drivers, DC-DC converter and DC-AC inverter design topologies.
  • Proficiency with magnetics design.
  • Experienced in product design from concept to first article pre- production prototypes.
  • Ability to generate power converter requirements and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of electrical CAE/ CAD tools.
  • Proficiency with modern electronic design software including PSPICE, Simulink, and Visio.
  • Experience with electrical schematic captures and simulation tools like SPICE
  • Working knowledge of electrical power systems concepts to describe designs at the component, module and sub-system levels with the ability to generate suitable design drawings and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of communication serial data busses such as CANbus and Ethernet.
  • Willing to work in a lab environment with high voltage and high current components.
  • Willing to travel 25%
  • Ready and able to work with your fellow team members and other staff
  • Great technical writing and verbal communication skills
 
Desired:
  • High-power experience at power levels greater than 100kW and voltages greater than 500V is desired.
  • Experience using lab test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, CAN bus diagnostics tools, data acquisition such as LabVIEW for test and verification
  • Familiarity with DC and AC military specification or commercial power standards and testing requirements
