Junior System Administrator -Linux/PostGres
Silver Springs, MD
Yearlong Contract (Possibility of Extension)
MUST be US CITIZEN to apply/Start; Must be able to get DoD Clearance
We are looking for a Meteorologist with strong PostGres, UNIX and LINUX background needed to support the monitor and control functions of the NWS Network Control Facility (NCF).  The NCF is a 24x7x365 facility providing Help Desk Type Support and Network Operations support to the Weather Forecast Offices, NWS National Centers, and River Forecast Centers.  Support includes correcting site processes and interface system issues, wide area network (WAN) problems and satellite broadcast problems.  The person must also be able to independently detect and troubleshoot failures, interact with forecast office personnel and third party vendors for site support, and accurately document all actions taken and provide customer feedback.
Security Clearance:
  • Qualified applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet the requirements to obtain and maintain a NAC (National Agency Clearance) government security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. 
Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge:
  • Ability to work a flexible shift schedule including day, evening/nights and weekends (12 hour shift 4 days’ on/4 days off)
  • Knowledge of and experience using RedHat Linux 
  • Knowledge of and experience using PostGres
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Work Location:
The work must be performed in either Silver Spring, MD.
Required Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology or a closely related field obtained within the last 18 months or by summer of 2019. A cumulative GPA of 3.0+ is strongly desired. (Please include your GPA and transcript with your resume.)
