Lead Software Engineer needed --- Location: Riverdale, MD.
 
We have an opening with a great client of ours and we are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to work in Riverdale, MD. You must be a US Citizen to apply.  This is a 5+ month contract with possible extension. No Clearance Needed. 
 
Pay Rate:  $106/hr. w2 non-benefitted or $174k w/full benefits
 
SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Our client is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program and help expand our distinguished team to develop a state-of-the-art ground station for the next generation of low earth orbiting environmental satellites. The development of this national asset will provide global coverage, monitor environmental conditions, collect, disseminate and process data about the Earth's weather, atmosphere, oceans, land, and near-space environment.
 
The Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S) software provides a highly automated and integrated suite of nine subsystems at the new NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF), including Orbit Operations, Mission Management, Command and Control, and Enterprise Management. The ideal candidate will be able to thrive in a multi-discipline, agile, continuous integration DevOps environment. The candidate will support development and maintenance of the JPSS program including integration of third party applications including the tracking of software and support activities, defect tracking and continuous delivery.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Candidate will communicate with parties within and outside of own job function, which may include external customers or vendors.
  • Establish key elements of tactical and operational plans with measurable contribution toward the achievement of results of the program. Develop new products, processes, standards or operational plans in support of the program.
  • Work in a large team typically comprised of experience professionals.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Experience in Agile methodologies and processes for development and sustainment activities
  • Experience in Development and Operations (DevOps) methodology
  • Experience in the management of Agile projects
  • Experience in Continuous Integration (CI) practices and tooling
  • Experience in the Continuous Delivery (CD) practice
  • Experience in automated testing (functional and nonfunctional)
  • Prefer 10 years of experience in defect tracking using various defect tracking tools
  • Prefer 10 years of experience in Software Configuration Management (CM) practices using various CM tools
  • Prefer 10 years of experience with the software development lifecycle in a working environment
  • Prefer 10 years of experience with various scripting languages
  • Prefer 10 years of experience with various modern programming languages including C++ and Java
  • At least 10 years of experience with various operating systems including Windows, Unix and Linux
  • Experience in software monitoring activities
  • Experience in Application Transformation
  • Experience with Microservices-based Architectures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with customers and vendors on a technical level
  • Experience working with and integrating (COTS) Commercial Off-the-shelf Software
  • Experience using commercial servers
  • Proven ability to perform tasking within cost and schedule
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment as well as alone
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative, multidiscipline environment to produce and maintain deliverable products
  • Proven ability to interpret system level requirements and decompose into software requirements
 
DESIRED SKILLS
  • Experience with Cloud-Native Software Development and Deployment
  • Experience with Cloud Migration Practices
  • Experience with Extensible Markup Language (XML)
  • Experience with various Software Design Patterns
  • Experience and knowledge related to Satellite Ground Systems and Ground System Operations
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION (INCLUDING MAJOR)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other equivalent fields.
