Senior Photonics Engineer

Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph REQUIRED*

Hanover, MD or Florham Park, NJ

We are looking for a Senior Photonics Engineer capable of:

  • Designing, developing, building and testing systems and products based on optic, photonic and laser technologies
  • Interacting with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems; specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation
  • Providing substantial contribution to electrical and optical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. optical loss, timing, power, etc.), design, integration, and verification of electrical and optical components, equipment and systems
  • Planning and leading root cause analysis for electrical and optical issues, conducting experimental tests, evaluating results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
  • Participating in design reviews of electrical and optical components, equipment and systems
  • Evaluating vendor capability to support product development
  • Recognizing, evaluating, taking responsibility for and prioritizing other tasks as discovered.
Educaiton, Experience and Skills required for success:

  • Must be US Citizen with an ACTIVE TS/SCI with Poly* If you don't know what this is, you do not have it and we won't be able to get you to an interview.
  • Familiarity with photonic and telecommunications test equipment

  • Ability to design photonic systems using primarily COTS equipment, and perform a link budget to ensure proper functionality
  • Knowledge of optical transport protocols is PREFERRED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences and Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited major university (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences and Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited major university plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
