Title: RN - Telephone Triage
Location: Greater Dayton Cancer Center
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Uses approved protocols to assist in providing direct patient care relating to all aspects of Physician ambulatory treatment involving telephone triage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides telephonic clinical assessment and health education to patients and/or family members;
  • Assists with patient follow up for: triage calls, ED visits, post-chemotherapy patients and others as assigned;
  • Addresses a proportionate number of calls in relation to calls handled by other triage staff;
  • Schedules patients to be seen for Acute Care and Follow up MD/NP Office Visits;
  • Performs all documentation requirements in the EHR;
  • Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and/ or Experience:
This position requires an active RN License for the state(s) of practice. An Oncology Certified Nurse Processional Certification is preferred but not required.  Bachelor’s degree (B.S.N.) from a four-year college or university preferred; Associate degree or diploma acceptable.  Position requires two years’ experience in some aspect of oncology care and three or more years of RN experience in a critical care setting, i.e. ICU, ED. 
General Skill Requirements:
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.  
  • Experience working with a Practice Management system.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders.
Physical/ Mental Demands:
Requires the ability to hear and speak clearly.  This position is normally required to sit approximately ninety (90) percent of the day with an occasional need to walk, bend, twist and carry 5-10 pounds a distance up to four (4) feet.  This position requires the ability to answer telephone calls, transfer calls and work on the computer.
Environmental/ Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Patient care and non-patient care environments requiring frequent contact with office staff and physicians. Work may be stressful at times.  The employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and personal protection is required.
Hazardous Drug Warning:
Healthcare workers who prepare or administer hazardous drugs or who work in areas where these drugs are used may be exposed to these agents in air or on work surfaces, contaminated clothing, medical equipment, patient excreta, or other sources. Studies have associated workplace exposures to hazardous drugs with health effects such as skin rashes and adverse reproductive events (including infertility, spontaneous abortions or congenital malformations) and possibly leukemia and other cancers. The health risk is influenced by the extent of the exposure and the potency and toxicity of the hazardous drug. Potential health effects can be minimized though sound procedures for handling hazardous drugs, engineering controls and proper use of protective equipment to protect workers to the greatest degree possible.
