JOB SUMMARY:



The HIPAA Privacy Associate provides support to the Privacy Officer. This position is responsible for tracking, monitoring, and responding to HIPAA-related matters and other general duties as assigned.  This position will be in our new Chattanooga Corp Office located on Lee Hwy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education – Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or other health related field preferred; RHIT/RHIA Credential a plus
  • Experience – 1-3+ years in a healthcare setting; working knowledge of HIPAA and Electronic Health Records
  • Skills – Must possess a knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations as it relates to healthcare data. Must demonstrate the ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information. Must maintain attention to detail, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner and with little supervision. Possess effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe. Be able to interact well with people of varying levels of authority.
  • Environment – Business Office environment.


JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Track and coordinate correction of scanning and referring physician errors within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of data. Logs all impermissible disclosures as needed.
  2. Follow up on privacy related incident reports by contacting involved parties, make corrections as needed, assign training and document steps taken to resolve issue. Collaborate with Supervisor to compile monthly report.
  3. Arrange placement of non-­clinical extern students in the Business Office and surrounding clinics. Provide HIPAA Training to each extern prior to start date.
  4. Work with staff to facilitate patient requests for amendments and restrictions within required time frame.
  5. Monitor and review HIPAA-related trends across the business when assigned by the Privacy Officer.
  6. Address inquiries concerning interpreter needs; establish Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with interpreter companies as necessary.
  7. Perform other duties as needed.
