Job Description


We're seeking a Research Application Specialist for a FTE opportunity located in southern, CA.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, responsible for providing routine builds and support for research applications, including mapping/integration with existing systems. Performs modifications to existing applications that will effectively accomplish desired objectives. Writes scripts for data extracts/queries/reports based on approved data requests and departmental build requests. Performs quality assurance/control (QA/QC) of builds and data/reporting/analysis as needed.  Meets deadlines and ensures continued progress toward assignment completion.  Shares experience with other members of team. Participates in meetings with other team members, research groups, and other internal customers to architect solutions. Performs and monitors the resolution of maintenance or enhancement issues. Interfaces with the various teams and end user community regarding application support.  

 

Job Responsibilities:

•              Develop data extracts/queries from Epic and the enterprise data warehouse for approved  research report requests

•              Participates in the Committee to review and approve data extracts

•              Assists with monitoring performance and usability of research systems (e.g. responsiveness, uptime, issues etc.)

•              Assists with the analysis, design and documentation of research systems and data collection forms, including QA/QC of entered data

•              Provides application build, support and training for end-users of research systems (e.g. REDCap, OnCore, etc.)

•              Assists with updates, including routine test maintenance and software updates

•              Creates troubleshooting documentation and user training materials

•              Works with end users in developing solutions for existing and new processes

•              Coordinates with end users and various other departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues

•              Assists in application customization, optimization and system stabilization

•              Uses analytical skills and expertise to investigate, resolve, and/or escalate support/data issues

•              Adheres to appropriate Project Management standards including Change Management/Control process

•              Assists in recommending application solutions to meet business needs

•              Functions as a technical resource to other staff as well as other departmental application and system managers/users

•              Prepares and submits status reports and metrics to Manager as required

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training is required.

License:

Epic Clinical Data Model Certification/Proficiency a plus

Job Requirements



•              Minimum of one (1) year of relevant healthcare information systems and/or research systems experience required

•              Technical and functional knowledge of assigned information systems required

•              Experience with SQL programing required

•              Experience with database migrations/merges, data cleaning/mapping, data validation, and querying data sets preferred

•              Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations and Institutional Review Board (IRB) policies preferred

•              Some project management experience is preferred

•              Knowledge of basic project management methodologies and system analysis

•              Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision

•              Good interpersonal skills including oral and written communication

•              Good analytical and problem-solving skills, including tolerance for ambiguity

•              Strong computer skills including Windows, Exchange/Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
