Job Description


The role is a key member of the organization responsible for the design, development and implementation of the controls systems for HVAC products that meet or exceed best-in-class performance. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the development of complete HVAC system strategies.  He / She will have broad experience and in-depth knowledge in the areas of air side and water side HVAC systems, room equipment, central plants and their product lifecycles.  The candidate is expected to be a team player who will work closely with colleagues and collaborate with the other business unit engineering teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

•  Design control strategies for room HVAC applications (eg fan coil, heat pumps etc)

•  Design control strategies for central HVAC plants (eg chillers, air handlers)

•  Support product management to capture customer requirements for complex or special projects

•  Deliver system level requirements to product development teams

•  Based on customer or future requirements, design complex system level HVAC applications

•  Produce control strategies or diagrams in standard languages eg IEC 61131-3

•  Prototype and evaluate control system and product concepts

•  Be subject matter expert to product managers on emerging technologies for HVAC systems, eg communications, user interface and FDD / analytics

•  Contribute to producing complete and concise system level functional design documentation

Experience & qualifications

   15+ years of HVAC product experience

   Expert knowledge of room, central and system level HVAC control applications

   Ability to work with product teams to understand business needs and translate to technical requirements and features

•  Fluency in programming according to IEC 61131-3 standard

•  Working knowledge of BACnet and ModBus communication protocols

   Familiarity with Matlab or similar

   Experience with requirements capture and system architecture modelling

   Good communications and organizational skills

   Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

   Familiarity with stage gate product development processes

   Self-motivation, innovation drive, accountability and ownership

Desirable

•  Experience with Internet of Things (IoT) for buildings or Smart Building concepts

•  Agile product development methods

•  Embedded operating systems, including Linux, etc.

•  Program Logic Controller (PLC) program development

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on controls system design

Other

•  10% travel is required
